Our Story

After World's Gym closed their locations down, NW Arkansas was left with nothing but commercial gyms. For 3 years, the serious lifters were scattered at workout facilities like Fitness4Less and Planet Fitness. In 2018, a gym in Siloam Springs wanted to focus on their MMA side of their business and wanted to sell their weight lifting equipment. That equipment was brought back to Bentonville and the new gym was opened.

The gym was named "J Street" because the old World's Gym had many locations, J Street, Hwy 12, Lowell, etc. and everyone referred to their gym by the location. Thus, people had already been calling the Bentonville location "The J Street Gym" the entire time it was a World's Gym giving instant brand recognition.

Ron Hefley

Management
My name is Ron Hefley, I am an Analytical Chemist by education and career. As my primary career, I own a company that distributes capital testing and analytical measurement equipment to State, Federal and Municipal regulated agencies. I’ve grown up lifting weights; it’s been a big part of my life since I was a teenager. We saw an opportunity in 2018 to open a gym the way we wanted to workout - an old school bodybuilding environment that’s inclusive and welcoming for people of any fitness level or goal. We found along the way a lot of others in the community that wanted the same type of experience and environment. We opened the J Street Gym as a project of passion and selfishness as we workout every single day which helps us understand and grow with the changing needs of our members and competitors. We are proud of the environment that resulted and hope like-minded others will give us a try and let us know what you think! We hope others will love the J Street Gym as much as we do!

Brian Kelly

Management
My name is Brian Kelly. I moved from New Orleans to Bentonville in 1997 with Unilever in a supplier role calling on Walmart. I fell in love with Northwest Arkansas and I chose to switch employment with several great companies including The Scotts Miracle Gro Co, Activision, Electronic Arts, and Rockline for promotional opportunities rather than to leave the area. I just saw that there is something special about Northwest Arkansas and I didn’t want to leave. I started working out when I was 15 years old but stopped when I had kids in my 30’s. One day when I 40 years old working for EA Sports, they had a “Pull Up” challenge that somehow reignited my passion to work out again. I began working out at the World’s Gym in Bentonville (now J Street) and in 2014, I became a professional natural bodybuilder in the IPE and WNBF organizations with goals of obtaining an IFBB pro-card. In March 2015, the World’s Gym in Bentonville closed leaving bodybuilders and powerlifters without a good option for training. In 2018, the old World’s Gym building became vacant we came across a Facebook Marketplace Ad where a Siloam Springs gym was selling all of their weight lifting equipment to focus on their MMA training. We purchased their equipment and in October 2018, the J Street Gym was born. Today, J Street is one of the most elite hardcore gyms in the country. The equipment selection is far superior to any other gym in the region, allowing me to train at an elite level. Although I am in my 50’s, I continue to gain size and muscle competing at the NPC nationals in 2020 and 2021 and I am going back July 2023.
